- Sushi rice
- Soy sauce
- Bamboo mat
- Plastic wrap
- Sesame seeds
- Nori
- Rice vinegar
- Wasabi
- Pickled ginger
- Fresh produce (e.g. Fresh produce (e.g. green onion, cucumbers, avocados, bell peppers and any other vegetable you desire.
- Proteins (tempura, sashimi, tuna, salmon, etc.)
Step 1: Make Rice
A quality sushi roll must include rice. Although rice is not difficult to make, it can take the longest time. Rice cookers are your best bet for high-quality rice. You can also combine rice and water, which will take approximately two cups to make one cup of rice. Allow the rice to simmer for 20 minutes, then cover it with a lid and let it rest for 10 minutes. Make sure to stir the rice frequently and ensure that it doesn’t dry out.
Step 2: Season the Rice
The rice-seasoning process is an essential step in making sushi. 1/3 cup rice vinegar is needed to season rice. Add 1/3 cup of rice vinegar to the rice. Fluff with a fork. Adjust the taste by adding salt, sugar, or more vinegar.
Are you unsure about DIY sushi? Stop by Sushi Inc. There’s no need to cook. You just need to have an appetite for the best sushi in St. Petersburg.
Step 3: Prepare Vegetables and Protein
After preparing your protein, cut the vegetables vertically into matchsticks.
Step 4: Roll it Up
Here are some things you should remember before you begin rolling your sushi rolls. To avoid any mess, wrap your bamboo mat with plastic wrap. You will need to decide whether your rolls should be wrapped with nori either on the inside or outside. We recommend that you start with the seaweed on your outside if this is something new to you.
Place your ingredients on a mat. Although this is a difficult step to follow, it’s actually quite simple. After you have made about 1/4 of your bamboo mat, roll up the ingredients and then fold the bamboo mat. Continue this process until you get a tight spiral. Then, stack your toppings on top of the rice.
Step 5: Slice, Serve and Enjoy
Use a sharp knife to cut the large roll into bite-sized pieces. You can top your sushi with avocado, sashimi, or any other topping you choose.
If all this sounds too complicated and you prefer to have delicious sushi prepared for you in a fine dining setting then Sushi Inc. is the place for you! We look forward to meeting you.
